Sarawak has operated its own MM2H scheme for several years, with the following regulations taking effect in 2025.
The following are the key eligibility criteria:
1. Main applicant’s age
Must be 30 years or older; children up to 21 years may be included.
2. Sponsorship
Every applicant must be linked to a sponsor who is a native of Sarawak and currently resides there, or to a locally authorised MM2H agent.
3. Proof of income or offshore liquid assets (latest three months)a.
a. Income
• Single applicant: RM 10,000 + per month• Couple/Family: RM 15,000 + per month
OR
b. Liquid assets
• Single applicant: RM 100,000 +
• Couple/Family: RM 200,000 +
4. Fixed Deposit (FD)
Any Sarawak bank, minimum RM 500,000.
5. Minimum annual presence
At least a total of 30 days spent in Sarawak each year.
6. Employment rules
Generally prohibited; only remote work for a foreign employer is permitted. Up to 20 hours per week may be undertaken with approval from the Immigration and Labour Management Unit (IMLU). Applicants may hold shares in a local company.
7. FD withdrawal conditions
Up to 50 % may be withdrawn after one year from the initial endorsement, strictly for buying property, a car deposit, children’s education, or medical costs.
8. MM2H visa validity
5 years, renewable for an additional 5 years.
